Claudia’s homage to her Papa

Jorge Antonio Hudtwalcker Teixeira was born in March 1939 to Dora Teixeira Vela and Alfredo Hudtwalcker Caceres. He grew up in Lima, Peru, where he attended San Andres school.

Kind, intelligent and happy, he soon became very popular among his friends. He was also very good at football, and he even got to play at a most beloved football team in Peru, Club Deportivo Municipal.

However, his mother, Doña Dora made it very clear that he had to attend a good university. Accordingly, he enrolled himself at the most difficult but renowned university in Lima, the Universidad Nacional de Ingenieria UNI, and studied to become an industrial engineer. After successfully concluding his studies, he started working at Banco Industrial. Here he gained a lot of experience how to start his own company.
By then, he had already met his future wife Carmen Maria Pinilla Cisneros. Carmen Maria is the daughter of Teresa Cisneros de Pinilla and Antonio Pinilla Sanchez Concha (a known intellectual in Lima, and the founder of the University of Lima). They were very much in love and married in January 1971.

Antonio knew “the most important thing a man can built in his whole life is a loving family”. They welcomed their first son Antonio Hudtwalcker Pinilla in 1972 and their only daughter Claudia Hudtwalcker Pinilla in 1973. During this time, Tony (as his friends known him), bought a company in Arequipa (a major city in Peru) which was bankrupt and started to rebuild it. By 1975 they welcome their third son Christian Hudtwalcker Pinilla.
The family was flourishing and so was the company. “The secret of life is the proper amount” he used to say. Enjoying both family life and his success as a businessman, he built a nice house for his family and started to breed Peruvian Paso horses. A couple of times he even won the price of the best breeder of Peruvian Paso Horses. He truly enjoyed this Peruvian tradition. The whole family was involved with it and still is. In 1983 the family welcomed the fourth member Martin Hudtwalcker Pinilla. By then his company was doing very well. He expanded his activities and started a brand of his company in Chancay, a city which in the last years has gained a lot of importance as major mega port has been constructed there. Still, instability in Peru was the everyday concern. However, Tony´s resiliency and hard work allowed him to adapt to the everyday changes, and even to grow thorough these difficult years.
Of nature he was a very positive person. He knew how to work, but he did also know how to enjoy life with his many friends, who were always looking forward to seeing him. Although having fun was fine with him, the family always came first. He spared no efforts to assure himself all his children knew it. It was sort of a tradition for him to pack his truck and travel through the country with his wife and kids on journeys that were memorable for all of them because of the scenery itself, but especially because of the love and laughter shared.
Tony was very proud of his Hudtwalcker ancestors and always wanted to learn more. He promoted trips to Oslo, Norway, and Hamburg, Germany, to spend time with Merete and Carl H. Hudtwalcker, and their son, John Michael. The importance of this relationship is exemplified by Tony being John Michael’s best man at his wedding in Oslo in 1993.
Even when their children grew up and got married, he would plan journeys altogether making sure his grandchildren would learn the importance of a loving family…and they all sure did!
